Rowan Salisbury Schools
 The Rowan Salisbury School System is a 30 school
system that serves over 20,000 students
annually, employs almost 1,500 teachers, and
covers an area of over 500 square miles.
Students in Rowan Salisbury Schools are
performing right along with the statewide
statistics in standardized math tests and
performing slightly higher than the state
average in reading proficiency.
Though it is a larger school district, the Rowan
Salisbury School System does not forget the
individual child. Programs such as summer
school, for students who need enrichment or
remediation, and More at Four, an early
education program for 4-year-old children in the
community to help them prepare for and adapt to
kindergarten are available through the Rowan
Salisbury Schools.
Additionally, the Rowan Salisbury School System
has created a close-knit environment by creating many
elementary schools – twenty to be exact. The
elementary schools are very neighborhood
centered and are usually named after the
community they serve. China Grove Elementary
School and Faith Elementary School are just a few
examples of these schools. China Grove
Elementary boasts over 80% proficiency in the
gateway grades (third grade and fifth grade) on
the statewide reading test, while Faith
Elementary School recorded an impressive 94%
reading proficiency in the 2005-2006 school
year, and has consistently met the No Child Left
Behind’s requirements for Adequate Yearly
Progress.
After graduating elementary schools, students go
into a slightly larger middle school community
and attend one of 7 middle schools, followed by
the high school transition to one of 7 high
schools. The 7 high schools include one
alternative school, Henderson Independent High
School, which serves students with special
educational needs in grades 8-12, and one brand
new high school. Jesse C. Carson High School is
a brand new, state of the art facility, which
opened in 2006 and currently has a capacity of
1,200 students. Rowan Salisbury Schools’ focus is
in student improvement and advancement.
